What is Vibration Analysis?

Many people have never heard about Vibration Analysis and are confused on what it is.
One could get very technical about what it is and how it works when in reality the concept is very simple.
Machines and bearings make noise.
With high-speed data collectors and powerful computers, this noise can be captured and analyzed and compared to similar equipment and bearings to determine the health of the machine, bearings, pump, fan or gearbox.
I won’t bore you with the details here, but the reality is that engineers and vibration specialists have invested years upon years of study to build data bases that contain information about healthy vibrations and unhealthy vibrations.
Measuring the vibrations of equipment and machinery in a plant or facility can provide valuable information to your maintenance and engineering departments prior to a failure. Whether it is a bearing problem, lube problem, alignment problem or a balance problem, Vibration Analysis can help with early detection. Early diagnosis of minute vibration trends thru vibration analysis is so accurate that little problems can be identified early and corrected at little or no costs. History has shown that these same little problems left unattended can cause catastrophic machine failures resulting in unplanned downtime, lost production and hurt your bottom line.
Vibration Analysis is like a CAT (CT) Scan to a human being, being able to see things inside machinery while it is running. Wouldn’t your world be better if you could see things needing correction, early enough, so that a crisis can be avoided … like finding cancer early in a loved one through a CAT Scan?
Vibration Analysis can reduce your unplanned downtime and lower your maintenance costs.
